Market structure and demand drivers
Uzbekistan is Central Asia's largest agricultural economy with 33 million people and a rapidly modernizing dairy sector. Three demand pillars drive alfalfa seed imports:
- Dairy modernization program โ The government's Sustainable Agriculture Development Strategy 2020-2030 targets doubling milk yield per cow, requiring high-protein forage. Alfalfa is the priority crop.
- Livestock export โ Uzbekistan exports live cattle, sheep, and karakul (Karakul wool) primarily to Russia, Kazakhstan, and Iran. Pre-export fattening uses alfalfa-based rations.
- Cotton rotation โ Alfalfa is the recommended rotation crop after cotton to restore soil nitrogen and break disease cycles in the Fergana, Ferghana, and Bukhara valleys.
Climate and variety match โ why KN92
Uzbekistan has a continental climate. Winters in Tashkent drop to -20ยฐC, summers reach 40ยฐC. TAIZTAR (our hot-region variety) cannot survive winters here โ the crowns freeze. KN92 was bred specifically for this climate band:
- Winter dormancy resistant to -25ยฐC
- Recovery in spring without yield penalty
- 8-10 cuts per year under furrow or pivot irrigation
- Protein 22-26% crude
- Stand life 4-6 years
- Compatible with Uzbek cotton-alfalfa rotation
Logistics โ Karachi to Termez (land bridge) vs Bandar Abbas (sea+land)
| Route | Transit | Cost/20ft | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Karachi โ Termez (Pakistan-Afghanistan-Uzbekistan land bridge) | 18-25 days | ,200-,500 | Via Chaman/Torkham, requires Afghan transit. Disrupted 2021-2024; restored 2025+ |
| Karachi โ Bandar Abbas โ Termez (sea + land via Iran) | 22-30 days | ,800-,800 | More stable, Iran transit reliable |
| Karachi โ Aktau (Caspian sea) โ Khorgos rail | 30-40 days | ,500-,800 | Longest but no border-crossing risk |
Phytosanitary requirements (Uzbekistan)
The State Plant Quarantine Inspection (DOQQO) requires:

- ISTA Orange Certificate with dodder 0.00%
- Certificate of Origin
- Russian-language translation of seed analysis report (we provide)
- Fumigation certificate (phosphine)
- Veterinary clearance NOT required for seed (only for feed)

๐ฌ WhatsApp ๐ง EmailPayment routing for Uzbek buyers
Direct UZS (Uzbek soum) payments are inefficient due to currency volatility. Standard routing:
- USD LC issued by Asaka Bank, Hamkor Bank, Trustbank, or Ipoteka Bank
- Confirmed through Sberbank Russia, VTB Kazakhstan, or Halyk Bank correspondent
- Settlement in USD at Kohenoor's HBL Pakistan account
- Alternative: TT 50% advance via Russian rouble bridge (Sberbank/Tinkoff โ MTBank Pakistan)
Why Pakistani-origin alfalfa beats Russian/Chinese alternatives
Russian-origin alfalfa (Voronezh, Stavropol) is closer geographically but:
- Russian export has been disrupted since 2022 sanctions affecting trade financing
- Russian varieties (Sinskaya, Pamyati Glukhova) have lower protein and shorter stand life than KN92
- Chinese varieties have inconsistent dodder control โ multiple Uzbek farmers reported field contamination from Chinese lots in 2023-2024
- Pakistani KN92 with 0.00% dodder ISTA certification gives Uzbek farmers confidence
